推进舱和返回舱的分离是返回过程中最具技术难度的环节之一，同时也是整个飞船安全着陆的必要步骤。具体来说，就是采用推进系统的主动推力，通过推进系统稳定的加速带动返回舱完成推返分离，以避免可能产生的碰撞危险。推返分离后，推进舱也会随返回舱移到载入大气层。有所不同的是推进舱会载入销毁，而返回舱则要独自踏上回家之旅。
